Hello everyone and welcome to the Canadian English Lounge! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dustin and I am an ESL teacher from Canada currently living in Mexico. Prior to becoming an English teacher, I worked as a nurse for two years, however, after about a year I realized that it wasn't for me. During this year I found myself to be unhappy, unfulfilled, and missing a sense of purpose in my life. As a nurse, I enjoyed helping others, but I felt like something was missing. I often wondered what I could do to help others while traveling, meeting new people, discovering new places, and continuously learning. I started to read and write and I found that this was helpful, I found that the more vocabulary I learned, the more my thoughts and way of thinking improved. The more my thoughts and way of thinking improved, the more my life improved. Through this, I discovered the beauty of languages and decided to become an ESL teacher. I found that English is a tool that can improve our lives in a myriad of new ways. English can improve our lives by allowing us to meet new people, make new friends, create new experiences by traveling, help us get new jobs, and improve overall brain functioning and cognitive abilities.
