Prepositions can be difficult to learn as there not many rules, and often require memorization After reading the stories, write or speak using the prepositions to get more practice.

Story 1: "The Picnic" (Prepositions: In, On, Under)

Definitions:

• In: Inside or within something.

• On: Positioned above and in contact with a surface.

• Under: Below or beneath something.

Tom and his friends decided to have a picnic in the park on a sunny Saturday. They spread a colorful blanket on the grass under a big oak tree. Sarah placed a basket of sandwiches and fruit on the blanket. They all sat down, and Tom's dog, Max, lay down under the tree, seeking shade.

As they enjoyed their picnic, they talked about their plans for the summer. Suddenly, a squirrel climbed up the tree and sat on a branch above them, looking curious. The friends laughed and shared their snacks with the friendly squirrel.

Questions:

1. Where did Tom and his friends have their picnic? 2. Where did they spread the blanket? 3. What did Sarah place on the blanket?

Story 2: "The Treasure Hunt" (Prepositions: Behind, Between, Across)

Definitions:

• Behind: At the back of or on the other side of something.

• Between: In the middle of two things or in a shared space.

• Across: From one side to the other side of something.

One bright morning, Mia and her brother, Jake, decided to go on a treasure hunt in their backyard. They had heard that a shiny treasure was hidden somewhere. Mia said, "I think it's behind the shed."

They ran to the shed, but there was nothing there. Jake suggested, "Maybe it's between the flowers." So they rushed to the flower bed and started searching. After a while, Mia shouted, "I found it!" The treasure was buried across from the swing set, under a pile of leaves.

Story 3: "The Adventure in the Woods" (Prepositions: Along, Through, Up)

Definitions:

• Along: In a line parallel to something.

• Through: Moving from one side or end to the other side or end of something.

• Up: In a higher position or direction.

On a cool autumn morning, Emma and David went for a walk in the woods behind their house. They followed a winding path along the river. Emma pointed out some colorful mushrooms growing by the path.

They continued their walk, and the path led them through a dense forest. Suddenly, they heard a noise coming from up in the trees. It was a family of playful squirrels running from branch to branch. Emma and David watched them for a while, amazed by their acrobatics.

After their adventure in the woods, they returned home, tired but happy, with memories of their journey along the river, through the forest, and up in the trees with the squirrels.
